Goodbye 2011, hello 2012. That was a fast year. I'm finding as I get older, time flys faster. Doesn't seem to be fair, "such is life" as my father use to say. I actually am looking forward to a new year. I haven't made any resolutions because why? They're just too hard to keep. Why set myself up for failure. What I have decided is that this year will be a year of creativity. I'm hoping to amaze myself, which isn't easy. We are our own worst critics after all. I just might go back to Paris or maybe a trip to Italy. Italy is on my bucket list. I want to make a difference in someone's life, not sure how, but I have my eyes and heart open. Okay, blah, blah, blah, I know....Here's what's coming at Cita. Fairy Special in Feb. The new fairy outfits are designed, the materials bought and ready to be sewn. The background has been chosen along with the props. You're going to "love" this years Fairy Special. We are offering discounts on select wall portraits and much more. Need to get sewing. Oh my gosh..... I look at these past Christmas cards of my sweet grandchildren and feel so blessed and thankful that I captured these memories. It seems like just yesterday they were both babies. Reminds me that I need to slow down and enjoy this wonderful life I've been given. I cherish every image I've ever captured.

Does it seem like your life is flying by. I remember when I was in high school. It seemed like forever till the weekend, not now. We are all so busy that we're missing what's important. I know first hand because I don't spend enough time enjoying my family. My grand kids are 9 yrs and 3 yrs. I just don't know where these years went. At least I am photographing them so I remember the many changes that have taken place in their lives. I was thinking the other day my father's been gone for 18 years. I look at his picture and can not believe I've lived these last 18 years without him. He was my sounding board when I got an idea about a new background or needed inspiration. I miss him so much, It's been 2 years the end of this month since I lost my mom. Before we all knew she was sick, Ron and I went to Florida for a visit. I didn't understand why she was so adamant about my taking her picture. She got up at 6 am so we could photograph her in the sweet light on her beach in Bonita Springs. I'm so glad my sisters and I have these images of our parents. I know how hectic life can be, especially since owning and running my own business. I guess I'm rambling on because so many of us are not taking the time. Where would we be without our friends and families? I'm so thankful I have my husband, my daughter, my grandkids, my sisters and my friends. Life is good but it's flying by. Just some thoughts....

In the sewing mood ...

Well as promised I'm trying to post more often. This is a job unto itself. Life has settled down a little bit, thankfully. Now I can concentrate on getting ready for Fall and Winter sessions.
Lately I've been in the sewing mood. What with my Fairy Special coming up in February I've decided to design a new Fairy Line. The Sea Foam TuTu in the images attached is the beginning of this new line. Currently I'm working on a bright blue creation. I'll post images as soon as I'm done. With the new clothing design comes new head pieces to match. Please comment and let me know what you think.

Not sure if you all know this, but I've been teaching photography to some kids at Whaley Children Center. What a wonderful experience. My objective was to have them tell their story through photography. I wanted their images to be their voices. On Monday 4 of them, I and Miss Jazmine went on a photography excursion. On Tuesday 4 more photographed. These are just some of the images these awesome kids came up with. I'm so proud of them. This has been one of the best experiences I've ever had. Please do not copy or reproduce any of these images. They are copywright protected. We would really appreciate your comments, so please comment. Whaley Children"s Center Project

Today was my first class with some wonderful children from Whaley Children's Center in Flint. I absolutely am so blessed to be able to meet these kids. Children are amazing. The class was amazing. The children so receptive. They were given 4 words (Love, Hope. Sorrow, and Joy}. The whole idea was for them to tell their story through photography using these words to inspire them. I was so impressed with their creativity. I learned so much from them. I can't wait till tomorrows class. I am so looking forward to seeing their images. I'm working on a revenue to display their images. A show of their stories in art. I'll keep everyone posted on when etc. What a blessed day I just had. debbie

Count Down to Portraits on the Beach

Only 2 more days till we're photographing on Lake Michigan. This years Beach Excursion is going to be the best ever. I'm so excited. Our cabin sits right next to the Traverse Preserve in Arcadia. The absolute best of both worlds. We booked 2 high school senior girls I'm looking forward to photographing along with 5 more families. We have our own private beach. I'll be posting on facebook so visit often.

July 9th - 16th we will be photographing on lake Michigan in Arcadia. Our private beach is right next to Traverse Preserve. I am so excited. We will only be 30 miles south of Traverse City, so there will be lots to do. If you've been waiting for the perfect time to have a beach portrait, this year is it. We don't normally go so far north but I really wanted the pristiness (I know it's not a word but it describes how I feel) of Lake Michigan. We have a few openings if anyone is interested. Hi all, Just a quick note to let you know what's going on here at Caught in the Act. We are really starting to get busy. Love being able to photograph outside. If you haven't been following us on Facebook, we are offering some great specials. I'll post later some sample images so you know kind of what to expect. We are also running a Family Picnic Special here on our lake. Lots of stuff happening. Call us if you have any questions.
I wanted to let you know about a new project I'm super excited about. I had a meeting with Katie from Whaley Childrens Center this week. For 8 years I've been wanting to put this project together, finally it's a go, I will be teaching a class to a group of children at Whaley on photography. My goal is to inspire them to tell their story through photography. If you're not familiar with Whaley, please visit their link on our facebook page. This center has helped so many children for so many years. I was very impressed with their facility and their staffs obvious love of children. Most of these children have lived through things most of us could never even imagine. They need a reason to be. I can't wait to get started. I'll keep you posted.

I have been so lax in keeping up with this blogging thing, I truly regret this and promise to do better. Life got a little distracted for while, but I'm back. Technology is a good thing but quite time consuming. Don't get me wrong, I love doing it but eking out the time is a challenge. I will prevail.
So I truly hope your Spring is going well. The weather has been interesting to say the least. We live in Michigan after all, I should be use to it by now.
I've finally decided to take some me time and plan a trip to photograph for me. I'm so excited. I'll be searching for old farm houses, barns, and out buildings to paint. Ron, my husband, is driving. He'd better be in the mood for stopping on a dime. I need to get that promise out of him before we leave. I'm working on an exhibit of my art. I'll be sure to pass along when and whereas soon as this is set in stone. I've also got a few projects in the works. I'll be blogging about them soon. Giving back has been on my mind for years now and I'm so excited about what's on the horizon. I'll be posting with all the details soon.
Right now I'm working on a painting of my sweet adorable granddaughter Willow. I'll post as soon as it's complete.

April Promotion

Spring is finally coming. To celebrate we have decided to offer this Kidz Mini Promotion. We will be photographing in the camera room so we'll have no issues with weather. Spring is a little fickle. A Kidz Mini session is the only time we offer packages at dicounted pricing. A big thank you to our lab for working with us on this promotion. Check out how much you'll actually be saving. For example: Package B consists of 2 poses, 4 units at $199. You make your own package. A unit is 1-8x10 or 2-5x7 or 4-3x5 or 8 wallets. If you chose 1-8x10, 2-5x7 & 16 wallets this would normally cost $260 plus the session fee (depending on which session you choose). Granted it's volume pricing so no enhancements, wallets are not die cut, only slight retouching available etc. We do only offer 10-15 poses to choose from (30 minutes of Debbie's time compared to an hour plus) but most of our clients prefer this because the decision making is easier. We also have products that are only available for these KM sessions.
Please check out the flyer. For the month of April only we are offering the use of our tutu's and hats. A normal Kidz Mini is your clothing only. If you want your children photographed by a professional and the chain store studios are not "good enough" anymore, call us. Remember this promotion is only available for the month of April. Spring is springing

Can't you just feel it coming, Spring that is. We are all so ready for warmer weather and the sun! It's been a long Winter. I've been trying to decide what landscaping project to tackle this year. I'm thinking I want to enlarge my waterfall area, put a picket fence around the potting shed, plant some trees, of course sprucing up all the planting beds, etc. Sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it. I lost my grounds keeper. Sure didn't realize how much work he actually did, now I've got to find a new one. Know of anyone I should consider? They must have a good work ethic as I do not have time to babysit.

What's a Kidz Mini?

I've been talking to a few clients who are struggling to make ends meet and aren't able to bring their kids in for portraits like they use to. It hurts my heart because I know how important portraits are to my clients. I'm hoping the "Kidz Mini" will help. In this session I capture 10 poses. The white background will be used in most of these sessions, however occasionally we will be offering different backgrounds. The session last around 30 minutes. You make your own packages. Packages start at $99. Your session fee is $35. The "Kidz Mini" is open to new and current clients. I hope this will help. Call the studio if you have any questions. Post Paris

It's been over a week since returning from Paris. Of course the airborne sickness set in about 3 days ago. Struggling with this cold. Must have been breathing too many germs. The bad thing about going away is the catch up we all experience when returning. It's been really busy here at the studio. Can't believe I'm still photographing for the holiday. Today I'll be outside with a hs senior photographing in the snow. Sure hope the clouds move in. Nothing like trying to photograph in the glaring sun bouncing off the pure white snow. Praying for some overcastness. I'll be posting some images from this session tomorrow. Tonight I'm going to hear my husband's band "Ron Trombly and Eastern Standard Time" at Johnny's Pour House in Flushing.
Can't wait to just relax and listen to some good live music. deb

Another Day in Paris

Another day of walking Paris. Wow, what an experience. I can't even describe the architecture. The most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. The cobblestone streets. I'm telling you one thing, a whole lot of people live and visit here. The streets are packed even at this time of year. The Christmas Market is all set up with vendors and food, lots and lots of food. Beautiful lights everywhere you look. I am so glad I came. I'm soaking it all up. We started out around 10 this morning and didn't get back to the hotel until after 9. I am definitely adding learning French to my bucket list. It's not easy being in a country when you don't have a clue about the language. Thank goodness for Sandy. We are going Chocolate shopping tomorrow among other things. We leave Tuesday afternoon, so tomorrow's the last day to experience this beautiful city. Check out this batch of images and let me know what you think.

A little bit of Paris

As promised, I'm blogging Paris. What a beautiful place. My flight was thankfully uneventful. Somewhat worried about the flight home, but what choice do I have.
Today I walked along with Sandy from France Journeys (www.francejourneys.com), her daughter Nicole and our sweet guide Jodi just about all of Paris. What a wonderful experience even though I'm paying for it now with sore muscles and throbbing feet, I'll most likely do it all over again tomorrow, I expected beautiful but I had no idea. This place rocks! The people here, contrary to popular belief, are very nice. The Metro is quite an experience. People packed in like sardines. I really don't like traveling under ground. Gives me the creeps.
I hope you enjoy a small sample of where we were today. I'm so tired, I will continue this tomorrow. d

Eleven Days till Paris

The clock is ticking down fast to my Paris trip. I'm so excited. What a lucky high school senior. {For those that don't know, I'm photographing a hs senior from Fenton in Paris.} I have no clue what I'm going to do but I'm sure it will come to me. What a chance of a lifetime. I of course will be photographing Paris for my art book also. I plan on posting daily for the week I'll be gone, so check my blog and facebook for updates and images. My trip to Paris

I'm so nervously excited about my trip to Paris. I'm not a good flyer, just in case you didn't know. I'll be gone the first week in December. One of my best clients arranged for this trip so I could photograph her daughter's senior pictures in Paris. How cool is that. Lucky daughter, huh... This client of mine arranges tours to Paris, etc. This trip is a shopping tour. While there I also get to photograph a Mother and Daughter from the tour group. This will be my first trip to Europe. I plan on photographing some images to paint for my art book I want to publish. I will be posting images and thoughts on this blog, so be sure to log on.

I know I don't keep up on this blogging stuff. I have really good intentions, but ... Life gets in the way. I hope all my wonderful clients are having a good life, same for my potential clients and past clients. Life is good, even though it throws you curve balls now and again. Change is inevitable and refreshing. Just think if life stayed the same, what fun would that be? How would you learn anything? My feeling is we are here to love and learn. I've got a lot of learning to do, lovin too for that matter. Since I started this business 20 plus years ago, things have definitely changed. You either jumped on the wagon or you were left behind (I'm speaking of the digital age). You're hard pressed to find a lab that still developes film. If they do they are scanning it. I know, not the same. Thankful we have software to help us with our developing, but you have to know how to use it. That takes education or a lot of trial and error. I'm loving the digital age, since I am a total control freak. I love staying up till the wee hours working on images I use to trust my lab to do. Not anymore. I've got to do it myself. That's good and bad. My husband says bad cause I work 24 7. I say good cause I'm in total control. My image is just that, totally mine. I kind a like that.
It's so hard to know how to handle your business in this economy. My heart goes out to those that have lost jobs, homes, and are struggling to keep food on the table. Some of my favorite clients have left the state and I miss watching their children grow. We've developed on own stimulus package. We're bringing back our "KidzClub" from years ago. We are offering mini sessions with no minimum order. Our KidClub saves you 50% off your session fee and 20% off print prices. I have been thinking about this subject long and hard. Life is a bunch of lessons that hopefully we take the time to learn from. I've been so heart broken since my mothers passing. I think of her constantly and I'm so sad. I miss talking to her, I miss her smile and the way she mispronounced certain words, I miss the way she use to stare at me {which by the way use to bug me a bit, now I miss it), I miss the way she took nothing for granted in life and lived it to the fullest, I just really miss her. I'm so sad I didn't appreciate her more. I guess I was just so caught up in my own life's lessons I didn't take the time to learn from hers. Where would we be without our families and friends. From this day forward I am going to listen to life's lessons. I will give everyone the chance to amaze me. I will slow life down and appreciate it. I will .....

Just got back from Professional Photographers of Michigan Convention. Had a lot of fun seeing old friends from around the state. Managed to take home a Top 7 Master Photographer award. That was fun! So glad to be home though. Conventions are exhausting.

This is the last image of my mom. I lost her November 30th. This image is so important to me and my whole family. I am so glad I got a chance to capture her on her beach in Florida. You all would have loved her. She was such a spit fire, always ready for a party. She knew how to live life. We all miss her more than words can say. Please have your parents photographed. Some Thoughts

Sunday we honored our Mother in a memorial service for some friends, family members, and us. The service was put together mainly by our sister Lori. She did a great job. Her friend Lynn came along and together they did all the cooking. Lynn is one of the most thoughtful people I've ever met. I'm so glad Lori brought her into our lives. The food was great. The day was sad. We miss our Mom. I keep grabbing for my cell phone on my way to work cause that's when I'd call her. We'd talk about the studio and how the kids were doing, I miss the sound of her voice. I fell like an orphan now that both my parents have passed. It's not going to be easy for awhile, I know that. My heart goes out to all of you that have been through this or will be going through this.
My husband Ron and I will be traveling to Florida to paint Mom's condo and pick up stuff to bring home to go through. I know it's not going to be easy not finding her there. I think I'm prepared, but I'm probably not. What I do know is I'll get through it because what choice to I have. I plan on sitting on the beach for hours, clearing my mind, and thinking about tomorrow. Life is so short. We need to do the dance of life everyday and hug and love our friends and families. One thing I know is that my Mother passed knowing she was loved. That's what's really important.

Back from Florida

Finally I'm back from Florida. The flights I had to endure were ,for the most part, uneventful except for the trip home in 60 mph wind gusts. Needless to say the landing was not fun! I cried while my sister Sam laughed. Don't ever want to fly again. In case you can't tell, not my favorite thing to do. I hate it!!!!!
Mom is freaked out, depressed and mean. Her pet scan is scheduled for Thursday. They're still saying the tumor on her brain came from her lung. They're the doctors, not me, but how about test results.
It's good to be home. Can't wait to get back to work. Here's a couple images I managed to take the day before we left.

I'm so sorry it's been so long since my last post. I'm not making excuses but a lot has been happening on my home front. My husband (Ron) and I lost our dog of 15 years (Buster) to some unknown health issue the vet could not figure out, Ron had his right Carotid artery operated on which turned out to be a blood clot, my mother was diagnosed with brain cancer and has since had brain surgery in Florida. They are currently trying to find where this metastasized cancer started in her body (they think they removed all the cancer from her brain), and this whole time I've been so thankful to the clients I've photographed. Thank you so much for taking my mind off the stuff that's happened lately in my life. Life seems so much better when you're looking through the view finder.
I am so looking forward to our Fall Beach Session in October. I can't wait to feel the wind in my face and the hear the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore. This will be our first Fall Beach Excursion ever. YAY!!! A big thanks you to all of you who are participating. We are going to have a blast.

Well, today was the day. After 2 long stressful weeks we (Ron & I) finally saw a specialist. Two weeks ago Ron's heart doctor heard a noise he didn't like in Ron's right carotid artery. Talk about freak out. It's been 6 years since his quad bypass surgery, we had no idea we'd have to face something like this again. Ron faithfully goes to his heart doctor every 6 months for a check up. He takes care of himself, eats right and walks 4 miles a day. We were not prepared. Then the long wait ... Two whole weeks of stress and sneaky negative thoughts. You just can't help it when you've been through heart surgery. Poor Ron had to go through a 45 min plus ultrasound test. Then more waiting. I'm not normally religious (more spiritual I guess) but I prayed my heart out. You see, my husband is an awesome guy. He was saved once and I prayed he'd be saved again. The nurse called us into a room where we were to wait for the doctor. He had the results. More freaking out. Doctor Kinning opened the door and I felt like a weight was lifted from my shoulders even though he told us Ron's right carotid artery was 90 percent blocked. The doctor starting explaining how Ron needed surgery and what that would entail. He had such kind eyes. I just know God sent him to calm Ron. He described exactly what needed to be done in such a manner that it relaxed both of us. I'll never forget that feeling. After 2 weeks of fear...we found faith again. Ron will be having surgery in June. The doctor said he could put it off to finish a job he needed to get done. We still have the surgery to wait for but our minds are calm. Life as we know it can change in a moment. I plan on not taking anything for granted again. Love and good wishes to all of you and thank you so much for your prayers..

Wow,2009!!! I am looking so forward to starting a new year. Great things will be happening here at Cita. We are excited to offer our clients new awesome products and great specials for the year. I'm so excited. Finally I get to photograph clients in the snow. This Special is for Children or Families. Session Fee is $50 with no minimum order. The session will last about 30 minutes. It occurred to me watching Good Morning America and listening to the news that the sky is falling. I'm aware the economy is in the "bathroom", aren't you. I mean they keep shoving it down our throats. The media has nothing positive or uplifting to say so therefore I'm boycotting... I refuse to give anyone that much power over my life and thoughts. I'm going to live my life in positivity. I'm going to surround myself with positive, enthusiastic people. People that can find the positive in all this negative. No more news!

Willow had her 1st birthday party this past Sunday. There were about 50 family and friends in attendance. Thank goodness the weather held out because we all were outside. She was dressed in a tutu with cute little legwarmers. She was stunning. Boy did she ever make out in the gift department. She was a little trouper, hugging all the gifts and giving out kisses. It's hard to believe she's been on this earth for a year now. time is flying.

I belong to the Professional Photographers of Michigan Association. This past weekend we had our Summer Seminar on Mackinaw Island. What a fun trip. I was walking through town and discovered an art gallery owned by my Art teacher at Flushing High School, Richard Wolfgang. I took art with this wonderful artist for 4 years. It just so happened he was at his gallery. I got to thank him in person for guiding me to this awesome profession of Photography. He was such an inspiration to me.
